On to 90 Mile Beach
We leave Auckland going north towards the mighty kauri trees. On a nice ride through the rain forest 90 Mile Beach is not far. What a great adventure riding along the beach for hours.
Maori culture and geothermal activities in Rotorua
After reaching the North Cape we head south to explore the Bay of Islands. Following the Pacific Coast Highway we soon get to the idyllic Coromandel Peninsula. A short cut takes us through the ranges for an awesome swim at Hot Water Beach. Yes, Rotorua the geothermal wonderland is our next destination. Just amazing all the geysers and boiling mud pools.
Abel Tasman National Park - the sunny corner of New Zealand
"Cow Country", as the townies from Auckland say is our next destination. Around Mt. Taranaki we get a taste of New Zealand farm life. Along the west coast we carry on towards Wellington where we seek out the capital's nightlife. Just in time we board the ferry to the South Island. We drop into another world and are stunned by the magnificent Marlborough Sounds. The beauty unfolds as we swing onto the Queen Charlotte Drive towards Golden Bay.
Queenstown - the adventure capital of New Zealand
Suntanned by the sunny Nelson region we hop on to the bike and ride into the Southern Alps. As fast as climate and vegetation changes the roads get windier. We stop at Hanmer Springs for a well deserved hot swim. On the eastern side of the Alps we reach the McKenzie country. Now it is not far to the Milford Sound and to Queenstown. Who dares to a ride in a jetboat or to do a bungy jump?
Rainforest on the Westcoast
We leave Queenstown towards Haast Pass. Riding past the main divide we drop into the rainforest. Along the Glacier Highway we follow the coast, accompanied by the endless beaches of the Tasman Sea. Deep in the Southern Alps we wind our way along the Otira gorge up to Arthur's Pass. Soon we reach the Canterbury Plains and the final destination of our trip, Christchurch.
